Antioxidant Synergy of POMELLA® Pomegranate Extract
Synergies are found when the overall effect is often greater than the sum of its parts. While punicalagins are responsible for the bulk of the activity of pomegranate polyphenols, it is the preservation of the natural polyphenolic ratio, or natural spectrum, which has been shown most potent and bioavailable.
A comparison of natural spectrum pomegranate polyphenols to its purified compounds “illustrated the multifactorial effects and chemical synergy of the action of multiple compounds compared to single purified active ingredients.”
This synergy may also explain why pomegranate tops the list of all antioxidant-rich beverages, why POMELLA® Extract tops the list of several different antioxidant assays, and is severalfold more active in LDL oxidation assays than pure ellagic acid.
